Sunday Samplings ~ Books, Technology, & No Place LIke...

Happy July!

It's hotter than a firecracker lit at both ends down here in Sunny Georgia!!!  I can only imagine just how hot it's going to be for July and August...whew, it's rough!  o_O

On to the Samplings...

The Guided Math Book Study is still going.  We are up to Chapter 5 this week and I plan to post my review of that in a few days.  It's not too late to join in and catch up as you can.  The posts will be live for you to read whenever you need them.  The links to each chapter's host(s) will always be included as well so that you can read what other people have to say.

Also, today starts another book study on the new blog I mentioned to you a couple of weeks ago that was set up just for teacher book studies - We Read, We Blog, We Teach.  Believe it or not, there are already over 730 followers waiting to start this book study!

We will actually be reading 2 books, Daily 5 and CAFE, by The Sisters over the next 6 weeks or so.

Yes I teach 7th grade...Math...and Social Studies...not Reading.  However, I'm a firm believer in that old saying that we are all teachers of reading, because well, we are.  I also like to stay informed about what other teacher are doing in their classrooms.  Be in the know instead of in the dark.

I feel certain there will be great strategies mentioned in these books that all teachers can incorporate into their classrooms.  In fact, I've already heard and read where middle school teachers are implementing some or all aspects of Daily 5 into their day.

So if you're interested in expanding your knowledge base a bit, grab a copy and join us!  I will be hosting a chapter in a few.

I have another new collaborative blog to share with you today called Technology Tailgate.  There's already many great posts on websites, tutorials...all things technology, to help you get a jumpstart on your back-to-school preparation!

Be sure to check this one out and enter the giveaway for a $25 Starbucks gift card!  The contest ends at midnight on July 4th.  Click the image below to head to the give away post.

I'm really excited about this blog because we plan to help put some technology into schools where there is no technology to speak of.  It's a non-profit blog and we are planning some creative ways to make a difference.

Last, but certainly not least, I want to give you a head's up on a Teaching Blog Addict event starting later this week....July 5th.

We will be celebrating International Blog Hopping Day with a Wizard of Oz theme.  It's called There's No Place Like TBA!

There will be many 'sub-themes' that day {Lion = courage in the classroom, etc.} which should be a blast!  There'll be link-ups for each sub-theme.  Stay tuned for more information as your's truly just might have a little something to do with Toto...hmmmm.  {Do you have a classroom pet.....hmmmm?}

{How could I forget?!?  I do have my First Bloggy Birthday coming up very, very soon!  I'm in the midst of making plans for an awesome event and this is coming up as I'm hitting or surpassing some nice, round-number milestones with my blog and all it's social media relatives.  Keep your eyes peeled for more details on the Par-Tay!}

Enjoy :)

I'm Baaack & A New Book Study Blog for Teachers

Hey guys!

I feel like it's been forever since I blogged.  It has been 2 weeks so I guess that's close enough!

The last couple weeks of school were CRAZY as always followed by 2 days of post-planning and a day-long co-teaching class.

I also think I had a sleeping sickness for the last few days!  I absolutely COULD.NOT.STAY.AWAKE!!!

Hopefully, I'm all rested up and ready to join the blogosphere once again.  {Thanks for hanging around!}

I've got several things to share with you over the next week or so in the regular weekly features, but....

First I want to share a brand-new, unique blog that I'd very proud to be taking part in!

We Read, We Blog, We Teach

This is a book study blog for Upper Elementary teachers, which we're calling grades 3 - 7 since I'm taking part!  The first 2 books we will be reading are The Daily 5 and CAFE.  They were both written by "The Sisters" ~ Gail Boushey and Joan Moser.

Here are the links for Amazon.

Now I know these are not what you typically think of when you're a middle school teacher, but I'm all for learning new things and who doesn't love a good strategy that {hopefully} can be adapted to other grade levels.  Also, with the literacy standards that are now part of Common Core, it certainly won't hurt to brush up on some reading strategies!

I will be hosting a chapter from The Daily 5 so I'd love for you to join us!  The book study officially begins July 1st, so you still have time to gather the books.  We plan to do other book studies at this blog in the future as well!

A special shout-out to Lorraine from Fabulous Fourth Grade Froggies for taking the lead and setting up the new blog!  Lorraine is super-duper sweet so head over and check out her blog!

There will be a Facebook page set up and the Pinterest board is already up and running!  Check it out here.

If you decide to join in, leave me a comment letting me know!  I'm so hoping some of you decide to have some fun with us!

Enjoy :)
