Barbara's Back...With Birds & a Rap!!!

The last Sunday of the month is here which means that the awesome Barbara is back!  She never ceases to amaze me.  Every single post hits home in some way or another!

Sit back and enjoy yet another great one my buddy, Barbara....

Happy New Year from Barbara at The Corner on Character!
How's it going so far?

I bought this t-shirt this week 'cause one of my new year's resolutions is to help my eighth grader manage the angries better. I've explained to him that he doesn't get to choose his feelings because our feelings choose us (You've heard that before, right?), but that what he does get to choose is how he responds to those feelings. Sometimes the upbeat ones like happy, glad, and confident choose him, and he's positively exuberant and such a joy to be around. Other times, the feelings aren't as pleasant, like ashamed, frustrated, and worried. Sometimes he gets downright angry. Not a lot, but when he does, it can feel insurmountably overwhelming and incredibly out of control. In fact, I've seen him get stuck for hours, unable to shake it off. So we've worked together to create a list of healthy ways to manage our anger and he settled on the ones that work best for him. To put those go-to strategies into one spot, I wrote this Anger Buster Rap
Set a pat, pat, clap beat and give it a try, then encourage your students to personalize it by substituting their anger-management faves:

The Anger Buster Rap

by Barbara Gruener
When anger chooses me,
here's an important fact:
I always get to choose
exactly how I'll react.

I don't need to fight or

shout, pout and cry 'cause
I have some healthy strategies
for management to try.

I can write or draw or count to ten,

I work it out or go outside to play, and then
I take deep breaths and maybe take a walk,
then email, text or call my best friend to talk.

So when anger chooses you,

and it will, that's a fact.
Just try these healthy ways
to get you back on track.

What have you resolved to do better this year?

Fun Friday ~ All My Crafty Friends Part 1: Classroom Signs

Happy Fun Friday!

As you read this post, I'm finishing up my 1st week of school.  Teachers went back on Monday and students returned yesterday.

I hope I'm having a Fun Friday!  ;-)

Over the Summer, I became aware of several blog buddies, teacher pals, etc. who are very crafty.

After purchasing from them and receiving such great products, I wanted to share their work with you.

So this mini feature was born...

This week I'm sharing an adorable classroom sign created by Hadar from Miss Kindergarten.

Hadar, who happens to be super sweet, has a great little Etsy Shop, Outfitted and Inspired, where she sells these beauties...

...in lots of different styles that she will customize just for you!

This one just happens to match my classroom decor and color scheme to a T.  This is our motto this year.  I absolutely LOVE seeing this in my room each day!

Head over and get yourself a FUN sign for your classroom!!!

I {heart} Erin Condren!

There are some things in life that just make me Happy with a capital H!

Erin Condren has become one of them.

At first, I was hesitant to spend the money {they aren't a Dollar Store item} on a planner, but anyone I knew who had an Erin Condren planner loved it and said they would buy another one.

Add to that my certified OCD brain with a need to be uber organized and my love of all things cute and fun...I couldn't resist!  I had to at least see for myself what all the hoopla was about.

So after a couple of weeks of waiting for my personalized Life Planner to be printed and delivered {and a FedEx guy who delivered my precious little book to another house and took an extra week to find it again}, the box finally arrived!

Then I opened it and I knew I was hooked!  When the inside packaging is a pretty as a present, that makes me all warm and fuzzy!

And here is my beautiful Life Planner...

A few days later, I had the urge to order the Teacher Planner as well...since I was already filling up my Life Planner with - life!  There are 5 of us here in my house, along with 4 dogs, 1 cat, 1 chinchilla, and 1 African Sideneck Turtle who summers in my office instead of starving in my classroom over the summer!  We all have work, school, extra-curricular, my 3 little businesses on the side, and appointments that range from doctor, dentist, eye doctor to hair and nails to vet and tire rotation!

Back to the computer I went to order a matching Teacher Planner {and a Weekly Planner for my family and one for my blog}!

Thankfully, the FedEx guy did not make the same mistake this time!

Here they are...

I feel more organized than ever!  My mind is more relaxed about what's going on everyday...and that, my friend, is worth the price of a Erin Condren Planner!!!

So when I got an e-mail containing a $10 OFF coupon code for a Lesson Planner from Erin Condren, I knew I wanted to pass it on to you.

These images are from the e-mail.

If you've considered ordering a Planner, this is a great offer to take advantage of!

Enjoy :)
