Welcome to Chapter 3 in our Guided Math Book Study! The title of Chapter 3 is Using Math Warm-Ups in Guided Math.
Brenda from Primarily Inspired has done a fabulous job putting all of this together for us and I am learning so much. Click on her link if you missed Chapter 1.
I decided to give a video a shot...especially after Dana from 3rd Grade Gridiron did such a great job last week! Click on her link if you missed Chapter 2.
I am super excited to be co-hosting this chapter with Tania from My Second Sense. She is an elementary school teacher and will be addressing this chapter from this perspective, while I read from a 7th grade teacher's perspective. Click her link to see her post on Chapter 3.
So after a few technical difficulties {which always seem to come up}, here's my run-down of Guided Math Chapter 3.
If you have a blog of your own, I'd LOVE for you to link up your post about Chapter 3 below!!! The more we share, the more we learn!
If you don't have a blog of your own, I'd LOVE for you to click on the Stixy link to leave a sticky note with as many comments as you'd like to share about Chapter 3!
Awesome presentation! Your comment about number of the day really got me thinking. Yes, students do need to see that numbers can be represented in multiple ways and absolutely there is not a "unit" for teaching this. I always run into this problem teaching decimals. They just can't understand that 0.4 is the same as 0.40. I'm hoping that using this idea everyday will help.
First of all I cannot get over your southern accent! :) I guess I have no idea where you are from, but it must be down south. I am really looking forward to implementing some of these ideas into my math class next year. Thanks for hosting this chapter.
I purchased and read the book last summer, already thinking of how to use "stretches " in my 6 th grade classroom this year. I really appreciate your thoughts on this from a middle school perspective, Thanks so much !
You're welcome! I've learned so much from just the first 3 chapters already. It will take a little tweaking for middle school classes, but I think it will be worth it!
