Fun Friday ~ Did I Really Do That???
I'm hoping this Fun Friday post finds you out of school, or at least VERY, VERY close to it!
I shared a picture on my Making It As A Middle School Teacher Facebook wall yesterday that got quite a few likes and comments.
I thought I'd share it here with you today...
I have had so many students do this over the years...especially boys it seems. I think it's very sweet {and a little funny as well}!!!

Yep, when I get the mom comment I joke with them that I'm kind of like their mom at school.

HAHA! Funny, I've had a big ole handful of 8th graders do it to call me mom over the years!

I've been called Mom many times, other teachers's names often, and even Grandma once in a while. (What can I say, I am old.) I smiled each time and used my favorite line: Just call your mom/grandma/other teacher Ms. Me every once in a while and we'll be even.
ReplyDeleteBut when the kid called me Grandpa, I drew the line. LOL
This just made my day a little better. I have been called mom sooo many time by my little firsties, but I have also been called grandma. That one I was like "huh?" I am only 21 and according to many look younger than that. Not sure where the grandma thing came from. Haha

My (Not So) Elementary Life
Years ago, when I was in my mid-20s, I had a student (an 8th grader) who was trying to get my attention and after repeating my name many times said "Hey Grandma!" The whole class got very quiet for a moment, he turned bright red, and then we all started laughing and he profusely apologized. I have his younger brother this year who has called me "grandma" a few times as a joke.
ReplyDeleteWhen my middle schoolers called me mom, I always replied, "Oh no, you wouldn't want me as your mom would ya?" They always agreed NO. They know I am too strict to be their mom. It always made us laugh though.
