I'm Getting a Turtle For My Classroom!!!!

About a week ago, I posted about applying for a grant which would allow for the purchase of a pet for my classroom as well as the habitat for it.  The grant is from Pets in the Classroom and is sponsored by The Pet Care Trust.

Well.......I GOT IT!!!!

It only took about 3 or 4 days to hear from The Pet Care Trust by mail instead of the 2 - 4 weeks mentioned in the grant process.  When I saw the letter in my mail slot at school, I assumed it was just a note saying they had received my application, blah, blah, blah....but, oh no!  I opened the envelope and saw this...

...saying, "Congratulations!  Your request for funding for your Pets in the ClassroomTM project has been approved."  It was during lunch and before I knew it, I was dancing in the middle of the lunchroom floor!!  I couldn't help myself.  I was like a kid in a candy store. :)

I'll be getting an African Aquatic Sideneck Turtle.  I can teach so many Life Science concepts using this little guy and I can also use him when I teach Africa during Social Studies!  It's just good any way you look at it!

To tell my students, I put a picture of a Sideneck on my ActivBoard, covered it with a shape image and wrote "Guess What" on it. 

When I moved the shape and they saw the picture and read that. "We're getting a turtle for our classroom," you would've thought some famous rapper was coming!

I was so excited that they were so excited and they had so many great questions about it.  I know this is going to be a positive experience for all of us!!!
